Use the Text Translator Tool

The Text Translator Tool changes text from one language to another.

Updated this week

SchoolAI can help you support students and families who speak other languages.

To use the Text Translator Tool

  1. Go to Tools > Text Translator > Generate

  2. Choose a language and enter the text that needs translation. Choose Generate. (At this time, uploading attachments to translate will not work)

  3. The translated text will appear in a text editor. You can make changes: highlight text and apply new AI Tools (including further translations) or press the backslash (/) key on your keyboard to open the options menu

  4. The translated document will save as you go. When you’re done, you can share it through a link, export it as a PDF, or export it to a Google Docs or Google Classroom.

Generative AI can occasionally struggle translating complex sentences, informal phrases, and nuanced language understanding, especially in less common languages. Reviewing and customizing what you’ve built is important to make sure it works for your use.

AI Tools

Highlight text in the document and choose AI Tools to edit the text using AI. You can change the tone, translate, simplify, and more.

Options menu

When you’re editing a rubric, use the backslash key to open the options menu. You can generate AI text or images, charts, tables, bullets/numbers, and more.

To translate text in a document

You may want to translate just a bit of text in an existing document on SchoolAI rather than translate a block of text. Or you may want to add to your translated document in your own language, then translate it.

To translate text directly in a document, highlight the text and choose AI Tools. Select Translate and choose a language

How do I find translations I’ve made?

Text translations you’ve created can be found and edited by going to Tools > Text translation > [Number] documents.

How do I share the translated document with other teachers?

When the translation document is open in the text editor, choose Share to copy the link and send it to anybody (most teachers use email). The link leads to a version that can’t be edited by the recipient. You can also use the Export button to share through Google Docs or PDF.

Pro tip: You’ll need to make sure the document is closed on your end. Otherwise, the link won’t work.
