Use the IEP Tool

Use the IEP Tool to create an Individualized Education Program to support students.

Updated yesterday

You can use SchoolAI to create an IEP (Individualized Education Program) document to support students with disabilities, emotional disorders, cognitive challenges, developmental delays, etc. The IEP Tool will generate a document that you can tailor towards an individual student.

Pro tip: SchoolAI offers an IEP Goals Tool and an IEP Tool. If you’re starting from scratch, we recommend using both Tools and combining their outputs for the most specific and actionable IEP for your student.

To use the IEP Tool

  1. Go to Tools > IEP > Generate

  2. Enter the prompts required and upload supporting documentation if you’d like, then choose Generate

  3. The IEP will appear in a text editor. You can make changes: highlight text and apply new AI Tools or press the backslash (/) key on your keyboard to open the options menu

  4. The IEP will save as you go. When you’re done, you can share it through a link, export it as a PDF, or export it to a Google Docs or Google Classroom

Remember, the IEP that SchoolAI generates should be used as a first draft. Reviewing and customizing what you’ve built is important to make sure it works for your student.

AI Tools

Highlight text in the document and choose AI Tools to edit the text using AI. You can change the tone, translate, simplify, and more.

Options menu

When you’re editing a rubric, use the backslash key to open the options menu. You can generate AI text or images, charts, tables, bullets/numbers, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an IEP?

  1. Go to Tools > IEP > Generate

  2. Enter the prompts required and upload supporting documentation if you’d like, then choose Generate

  3. The document will appear in a text editor. You can make changes to the document: highlight text and apply new AI Tools or press the backslash (/) key on your keyboard to open the options menu

  4. The document will save as you go. When you’re done, you can share it through a link, export it as a PDF, or export it to a Google Docs or Google Classroom

How do I find an IEP I’ve made?

IEPs you’ve created can be found and edited by going to Tools > IEP > [Number] documents.

How do I share the IEP document with other teachers?

When the IEP is open in the text editor, choose Share to copy the link and send it to anybody (most teachers use email). The link leads to a version that can’t be edited by the recipient. You can also use the Export button to share through Google Docs or PDF.

What is the difference between the IEP Goals Tool and the IEP Tool?

The IEP Tool will create IEP goals alongside the rest of the IEP document (including Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP), strategies/supports, and more). The Goals Tool is more specialized. To create the best IEP for a student, we recommend you use both!

Pro tip: You’ll need to make sure the document is closed on your end. Otherwise, the link won’t work.
