Teachers and students can choose how SchoolAI looks: Light, Dark, or Auto. For logged in teachers and students, you'll find the setting under Appearance in your account menu. Simply click your avatar in the bottom left of the app and pick your mode. For students that are in a Space, this setting will also be in the Space chat accessibility settings in the upper right corner.
Everyone sees and reads a little differently. Some people with light sensitivity or migraines find dark mode more comfortable, while many people with astigmatism read more easily in light mode. Pick whichever works best for you. You can change it anytime.
For teachers
Your choice applies to the whole teacher app, which makes dark or auto mode handy for late-night planning and grading.
Click your name and profile picture in the bottom left corner of the app.
In the menu that opens, find Appearance.
Choose Light, Dark, or Auto. The app updates immediately.
Note: Previews of student Spaces always appear in dark mode, even when your app is set to Light. Want previews to match your setting? Let us know through Feedback in that same account menu.
For students
The student app and Spaces used to be dark only. Students can now switch to light mode too, which is great for bright classrooms and longer tasks.
Click your name and profile picture in the bottom left corner of the app.
Under Appearance, choose Light, Dark, or Auto.
Inside a Space
You can also change the look without leaving a Space. Click the Accessibility button at the top right of the chat, then choose an option under Appearance. The same panel has the Dyslexic friendly font and Easy read mode settings.
What each option does
Option | What you'll see | Good for |
Light | Dark text on a light background | Bright classrooms, long reading tasks, people who find light text harder to read |
Dark | Light text on a dark background | Late-night work, low light, light sensitivity or migraines |
Auto | Matches your device's setting | People whose computer or tablet already switches between light and dark |
Frequently asked questions
Who can change the appearance? Every teacher and student. Each person picks their own setting, so a teacher's choice doesn't affect what students see.
Where did the old Dark mode switch go? The on/off Dark mode toggle has been replaced by the single Appearance setting described above.
Why do Space previews still look dark? Student Space previews always show in dark mode for now, whatever your setting. Tell us through Feedback in user settings if you'd like them to follow your choice.
I picked Auto, but the app didn't change. Auto follows your device's display setting. Check whether your computer or tablet is set to light or dark, then refresh SchoolAI.
