Using SchoolAI in Schoology: A Teacher's Guide

Overview

Once your school or district has connected SchoolAI to your Schoology LMS, you can create and assign SchoolAI Spaces directly from within your Schoology courses — no need to switch between tabs or log in separately. This guide walks you through everything you need to get started.

Getting Started

To access SchoolAI from inside a Schoology course:

  1. Open any of your courses in Schoology

  2. Click Add Materials — either from within a module or directly in the course materials area

  3. Select SchoolAI from the dropdown menu

That's it. A SchoolAI window will open right inside Schoology.

Don't see SchoolAI in the dropdown menu? Your school's integration may not be set up yet. Reach out to your tech admin or IT department to get it enabled.

Adding a Space to Your Course

Once the SchoolAI panel is open, you have two options:

Option A — Use an Existing Space

If you've already built a Space inside SchoolAI, you can pull it directly into your Schoology course. Browse your existing Spaces and select the one you want to assign.

Option B — Create a New Space

If you don't have a Space ready yet, no problem — you can build one on the spot:

  1. Click “Create a Space” on the left-hand menu

  2. Describe your activity idea in the text field (e.g., "Review the water cycle for 4th grade")

  3. Select the appropriate grade level

  4. Optionally, attach any files or add standards

  5. Click Create My Space

SchoolAI will generate your Space in a matter of seconds. From there, you can review it, make edits, and continue refining it until it's ready.

Assigning a Space to Your Course

Once you're happy with your Space:

  1. Click “Save and continue”

  2. Click “Preview and add to assignment”

A “Preview & customize” window appears. At the bottom of the window, you’ll find two assignment options that are exclusive to LMS integrations like yours:

Auto-Grading

Automatically assign a grade after a student completes a set amount of time or number of messages in the Space. This works well for completion grades — for example, awarding full credit once a student has engaged with the activity for a minimum amount of time.

Student Lockout

Restrict how long students can access the Space. You can set a lockout after a specific amount of time (e.g., 10 minutes for a warm-up activity) or after a session has been idle for a set period. This is useful for timed activities or keeping students on task during class.

Once you've configured your settings, click “Add to Assignment” and you’ll see your new SchoolAI course content in the Materials section of your Schoology LMS. You can click on the gear icon to move it or copy it to other courses – anything you’d do with your Schoology content.

Tips

  • You don't have to build from scratch every time. Any Space you've previously created in SchoolAI is available to reuse across courses and assignments.

  • Auto-grading is great for low-stakes activities. Use it for warm-ups, exit tickets, or participation grades where completion matters more than a specific score.

  • Student lockout works well for in-class activities. Set a time limit that matches your lesson plan so students stay focused during a designated window.
