Student Insights Dashboard

Student activity at a glance

Student Insights brings everything your students are doing in SchoolAI into one place.

Instead of checking multiple places for different student interactions, there’s now one scannable view, along with the ability to dig deeper and view insights, outcomes, alerts and chats for full context.

Note: “Student Insights” replaces the old “Session History” app menu item. If your district is on Scale and has not set up student rostering, you'll see a prompt to get that set up first. Rostering is what lets us tie chats and related information to the right students.

Where to find it

Click “Student Insights” in the navigation menu. You'll see two tabs: “Space sessions” and “Sidekick activity.”

Space sessions tab

This tab shows your student Space activity: it's the same session history you're used to, now living inside Student Insights. Each row shows the session title, its status (Active, Paused, or Ended), how many students participated, how many insights were generated, and any critical alerts.

Click into a session and you're taken to Mission Control for the full picture:

  • Class mastery score and a breakdown by outcome (how many students are below, approaching, at, or above the mark for each one)

  • Progress, showing how many students are on each step of the session

  • Class insights — student misconceptions, who needs support, and who's ready for more, each with a "View students" link to jump straight to the right group

  • A student list where each student has a status (for example, Enthusiastic, Making progress, Frustrated, or Critical), their outcome-by-outcome progress, and a plain-language note on where they stand

  • Rolling student insights, short real-time notes as they come up (for example, a student asking for clarification)

Student Insights surfaces all this and links you right into it.

Note: It's still Mission Control under the hood, so nothing about how you use it today changes.

Sidekick activity tab

Get a view into how your students are using Sidekick on their own, outside of class.

You'll see a list of your students, each with:

  • Latest chat — a short, plain-language description of what they were working on and when

  • Sentiment timeline — a color-coded bar showing how the tone of the conversation moved over the course of the chat (an info icon next to the column header explains how to read it)

  • Chat count — how many chats that student has

  • Alerts — a count of anything flagged in that student's chats that may need your attention

Click the row of a student to open their student page, then click one of the chats to open the chat panel to view the chat transcript and any alerts.

Opening a chat

Clicking into a chat opens a panel with three tabs:

  • Chat — the full conversation, exactly as the student and Sidekick had it, with timestamps and date dividers. You're seeing the real chat transcript, not a summary. You can only see chats for your own students.

  • Alerts — any concerning parts of the conversation that are flagged in that specific student chat

Alerts

If something in a chat needs a human's attention, it shows up as an alert — labeled by severity (for example, “Critical”) with a timestamp, a plain-language explanation of what happened and why it was flagged, and a note on what kind of follow-up might help.

This covers both safety and well-being concerns as well as conduct issues like disrespectful language, off-task behavior, or attempts to get Sidekick to do something it shouldn't. You can dismiss an alert once you've reviewed it.

Read more about alerts and student safety here.

Sidekick schedule

Click “Sidekick schedule” in the top right to see when Sidekick is available to your students through their student portal. This view is read-only for non-admins — if a schedule needs to change, you'll need to contact your organization’s admin.

Student detail page

Click a student's name to open their individual page. At the top you'll see their name and school, below that you’ll find their full Sidekick activity — every chat, with the same sentiment timeline and alerts you'd see in the list — all in one place, without digging through the group view.

If you don't see your students yet

This usually means your district does not have the Scale product or hasn't finished setting up rostering, which is what connects chats and sessions to the correct student records. In either instance, you'll see a prompt in the dashboard pointing you toward what to do next to get access. Check with your organization’s admin if you're not sure whether rostering has been set up.

FAQ

Can I read my students' actual Sidekick chats? Yes, for your own students only. You see the full conversation so you have the context to follow up.

Can I change when Sidekick is available to a student? You can view a student's Sidekick schedule from the dashboard, but any Sidekick schedule changes need to go through your organization’s admin.

Does Sidekick take any follow-up actions? No. Sidekick surfaces signals and chat transcripts; you decide what follow up actions might be needed.

Why don't I see my students yet? Your district may still need to set up rostering. Once that's complete, your students’ Sidekick activity will appear.

Who can see my students' insights and chats? Only the teachers of the rostered student and organizational admins for those students.
