Turn any YouTube video into an interactive learning journey. Video Explorer lets you pair a video with AI-generated comprehension questions that appear at key moments, keeping students engaged and checking for understanding in real-time.
What’s New?
We’ve redesigned Video Explorer from the ground up for a more impactful experience:
Timed Checkpoints: Instead of an open-ended chat alongside the video, the experience now features structured, timed questions that pause the video, prompting students to respond before continuing.
Targeted AI Review: AI-powered chat is still part of the experience, but it now appears after the video to help students review specific concepts they missed.
Full Teacher Control: You now have the power to review, edit, and manually add questions before your students ever see them.
Note: This update fully replaces the previous version. Past sessions from the old Video Explorer will no longer be visible in the new interface.
Setting Up Your Video Explorer Space
To get started, select Video Explorer from the "Everyday Spaces” section of the Discover page. Setup is simple – just click “Preview & Launch” and follow the steps:
Paste a YouTube link: Any public video works!
Choose the number of questions: Enter how many checkpoints you’d like throughout the video.
Choose question type: Multiple choice? True/False? Both?
Set the focus: Describe what you want the questions to cover (e.g., "The process of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation"). This ensures the AI stays on-topic.
Select a grade level: This ensures the reading and comprehension level matches your students.
Click "Generate questions": SchoolAI will create the questions and pin them to specific timestamps.
Reviewing and Editing Questions
Once generated, you’ll see the settings screen where you can preview the video alongside the question cards. Before launching, you can:
Edit Questions/Answers: Click directly on any question or answer choice to change the wording.
Swap Question Types: Use the dropdown next to the timestamp to choose between Multiple Choice and True/False.
Mark Correct Answers: Select the checkmark next to the right option.
Manage Answer Choices: Use the “+ Add option” button for a new answer or click ✕ to remove options.
Edit the Answer Explanation: Adjust the text students see after they answer to reinforce the concept.
Add/Delete Questions: Use the menu (⋮) to delete a question, or click “+ Add question” below the video to create your own at the current timestamp.
Take a moment to review the AI-generated questions before launching the Space. You know your students best — adjust the wording, swap out answer choices, or add questions that target specific concepts you want to reinforce.
When everything looks good, click Continue to finish setting up your Space.
The Student Experience
When students enter the Video Explorer Space, they'll see the YouTube video front and center.
The video automatically pauses at each timestamp. A question card appears, and students must submit an answer to resume the video.
Correct answers highlight green, while incorrect ones highlight red (showing the correct choice). Both include the answer explanations.
Once the video ends, the AI steps in for a personalized chat that focuses on the questions the student missed, acting as a built-in tutor for tricky topics.
Tips for Video Explorer Success
Keep it short & sweet: Aim for videos under 10 minutes. Shorter, laser-focused clips keep engagement high and prevent "scroll-fatigue."
Be specific with the "Focus" field: Instead of just "History," try "The causes of the Boston Tea Party." The more detail you give, the better the questions will be.
Do a quality check: Always do a quick pass through the AI-generated questions before launch. You know your students best—a few tweaks can make a huge difference.
Shake up the question styles: Mix in both Multiple Choice and True/False. Keeping the format varied keeps students on their toes.
Use the "Explanation" Feature: Don’t forget that the learning continues after they’ve answered. The answer explanation is the ideal spot to provide context or a "why this matters" note to capitalize on shaky concepts.
